Liz’s Kitchen – Chocolate Banana Bread Recipe

Posted on January 30, 2019January 30, 2019 by Liz Mantel

Ok. So for some reason, EVERYONE loves my Banana Bread recipe and the secret is…it’s not really mine. BUT for the #SnowedIn version of Liz’s Kitchen I decided to put a fun spin on the classic Betty Crocker recipe. When there is a snow storm you want homey, decadent, almost-bad-for-you food. So I added a little bit of sweetness to the bread to hopefully take it to another level. I should give a shout out to my sister who introduced me to the original recipe, which is ALWAYS worth making.

Chocolate Banana Bread

  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cups very ripe bananas (3 to 4 medium)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon instant esspesso
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Preheat your oven to 350 and pull out two loaf pans and grease. Next put sugar and butter in your mixer and blend. Add your eggs and make sure everything is mixed well.

Next add your bananas, buttermilk and vanilla. Mix well and then add the cocoa powder and instant espresso.

Next slowly add your flour until all is mixed in well. Then add you baking soda and salt, continue to mix.

Divided the mix between to pans (or put it all in one for some fun) and cook in the oven for about an hour.

Pull out and use the toothpick test to see if the mixture is done. Let cool and then enjoy! It’s soooo good and perfect for a snowstorm.
