This recipe was made “famous” last year when I made it LIVE at the Erie County Fair! I was asked to take Liz’s Kitchen on the road at the ECFair Cooks! Kitchen & Shoppe. It was so much fun and there I learned WHY people loved this recipe! It’s light and easy to make but the big sell was that it wasn’t mayonnaise based and yet it still packed the flavor! I’m so excited I found this recipe because it really comes back to why I started cooking…and that was family.
I hope you love this recipe as much as I do and I hope you’re ready for grilling season because it has arrived! Fun tip – this works great as a side or on your burger, pulled pork or even hot dogs!
Liz’s Kitchen: Great Grammy’s Coleslaw Recipe
You’ll never go back to store-bought after you try this recipe! It’s so easy to make and you probably have all the ingredients in your pantry now! You’re going to love the delish homemade taste that you can’t replicate in a package!
Prep Time5 mins
Servings: 10
Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 6 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 bag coleslaw mix (or head of cabbage)
Instructions
- Mix dry ingredients with the egg. Then add liquid and bring to a boil to thicken, stirring occasionally.
- Grate your cabbage or buy a bag of slaw and pour mixture over slaw mixture.
- Mix together and let chill till serving. My recommendation is to let it sit in the fridge as long as you can. It’s always better the next day!
- Serve as a side or use it as a condiment on your favorite grilled item between a bun!
Find Me On ...
OMG! Liz, you hit this one out of the park! Made it yesterday and let it chill overnight. Was concerned that the “dressing” looked a tad lacking for a full bag of slaw, however the taste was Bold and Flavorful as written! Will definitely be making this one again!
